Our Screw Thread Adapters (STAs) are made from Aluminium so that they’re durable, but still light. However, when the screw thread used is also metal, then they can sometimes come loose. We’re looking at ways to prevent this in future.
Some people have used PTFE tape on the thread, but this doesn’t always work well as it’s too soft. Instead, we suggest that you try ordinary plastic electrical tape and wind it in the same direction as the thread. 1 or 2 winds should be sufficient.
Another alternative for a semi-permanent fixing is something like this: http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Adhesives+Sealants/General+Adhesives/Threadlock+Low+Strength+10ml/d180/sd2340/p21229
…which is advertised as:
Low strength designed for easy disassembly.
So, it should be OK, and removable, but please bear in mind that, as the Screw Thread Adapter is smooth, it could be difficult to get enough purchase on it to unscrew if you wanted to.
We haven’t tested threadlock, most people have gone for the electrical tape option, and seem to be happy with it. If you do try threadlock, please let us know how you get on.
